Health and wellness is a booming industry bringing in a lot of money. Since 2002, this industry has grown 250 percent with many Baby Boomers trying to maintain their youth. What was once considered “snake oil” and nonsense has now become the craze with fads like antioxidants, super foods and the all-time favorite weight loss pills. There are many reputable companies selling great results-oriented products on the market, but as it seems, with every one reputable company, there are 10 out there trying to scam consumers into purchasing their gimmick. When it comes to health, especially weight loss, people can be desperate to try anything, but putting your health at risk isn’t worth it! So please pay attention and stay away from companies using familiar scam tactics. (more…)

Weight loss is an endeavor that seems to be very hard for a lot of people to achieve. This is because weight loss means to exert too much effort. Whether you want keep off 3 pounds or more, there are guiding principles as to how much you would want to lose and how fast you’d want weight loss to happen.
The truth is you can achieve weight loss even without dieting, medication or the aid of special books. A person’s body weight is dependent on how much energy he takes in, in the form of food and the total energy he spends in his day-to-day routines. Since energy comes from calories, your weight remains the same if your total amount of calorie intake is the same as what you burn through your activities.
Consequently, if you are putting on the pounds slowly, it can be said that your calorie intake is much greater than what you can burn throughout the day. Remember, you are in control of how much food you eat, so you are the one in control of how much calories you fill your body with. You also control how much you burn or how much your energy output is. Therefore, weight loss depends on what you eat and what you do. The calories we burn every day depend on our BMR or basal metabolic rate and the extent of our physical routines.

Weight loss has been a major concern for a long time. With the advancement of human knowledge and the conveniences of technology, people have become more sedentary with unhealthy eating habits. With the increasing number of overweight and obese people, the battle for weight loss continues. Here are several weight loss methods that are being used today:
1. Proper diet for your weight loss
Diet is one integral part people have to consider when considering a weight loss method. People eat food in order to have enough energy to move, work, play, and live. Every cell in the body consumes energy, and this energy is provided by the food that is consumed. The problem is that some people eat more food than what their body needs. The excess food is then stored, usually as fats to be used in case the body needs more energy. When this cycle is repeated over and over, the body begins to gain weight.

According to the World Health Organization, 30.6% Americans today are obese. Worldwide, one billion people are overweight while 300 million suffer from obesity. That’s one billion of the almost seven billion population of the world today, compared to the 800 million people who are underweight due to poverty. Weight loss for the overweight and obese population is then highly advised by WHO.
The exploding rate in the number of obese people gravely heightened the figures of a number of chronic diseases such as diabetes type-2, cardiovascular diseases like hypertension and atherosclerosis and certain kinds of cancer. In the early days, type-2 diabetes only affected adults of advanced age but today, it has become common to younger people who are overweight and more to those who are obese.
That is why losing weight down to the ideal level is vital in safeguarding overall health and lengthening a functional life. And the steady increase of the number of obese people has made certain groups and organizations to make moves in halting the procession of obesity along with the dangers they drag along with them.

Have you ever been on a diet and agonized over how slowly the numbers on the scale seemed to be going down? Even when you worked really hard on improving your eating habits and worked out religiously each day, you may have experienced a flash of disappointment when the scale showed only a 1 pound loss (or worse, none at all). It happens to almost everyone at some time or another, and it can be extremely discouraging if it keeps happening for weeks at a time.
What you may not realize is that the numbers on the scale do not tell the whole story! Many of us use those magic numbers to let us know if our hard work is paying off or not, but there are many other ways to see our progress more clearly. (more…)

Losing weight or keeping it to the optimal levels can improve your life in many areas. Good health and longevity are connected with a well balanced diet that gives you the right nutrients that your body needs and exercise. Avoiding some foods and taking the time to move the body around it’s a small price that someone have to pay compared with all the benefits that such actions can give you. Everybody wants to be healthy and happy but unfortunately only few take action to make it a reality. One big problem is the perception that someone has to go to the extremes and change his whole life within a day by adopting a new diet and habits. It doesn’t have to be that way. By starting slowly and gradually increase your efforts you can achieve much more and reduce the risk of quitting. It is not a race but a long time process. (more…)

When someone is on a program or diet trying to lose weight should always remember that the loss of fat is the most important. You want to preserve your muscle tissue as much as you can and not let it get lost during your diet. Of course it’s not easy to lose the one without the other unless you go slow and put some exercise in your daily life. And of course if you go after a crash diet it’s almost certain that you are going to lose mainly muscle tissue and not fat. That is the reason that I never favor such drastic measures to reduce your weight and I always insist on going slow and exercise as the best way to lose weight without getting back afterward. But in order for you to know what you are doing and monitor your results you should know about body fat composition and what the ideal percentage is. (more…)
