Weight Loss for Christmas – My Plan

By Will Edwards

For the next six weeks, I am going to try the weight loss formula I set out in my previous post on how to get thin in six weeks. Starting today, I am going to do exactly what is outlined in that post and then, in six weeks time, I will report my results. I may give an intermediate progress report, but if I do, it will not report results in terms of weight loss. That’s because I am not going to weigh myself, after today, for the next six weeks.

So my current weight is: 209 lbs (94.8kg) or 14st 13 lbs in old money, so to speak and this is the heaviest I have ever been in my life, so it is a good time to start. I have only dieted once before, seriously. That was about fifteen years ago. At that time, my starting weight was 14st 9 lbs (205 lbs, 93 kg) and I eventually lost exactly two stones (28 lbs, 12.7 kg). (more…)

Three Simple Ways to Lose Weight & Save Money

By Beth Brock

Everyone wants to be healthy and save money. Putting the two goals together is a perfect plan, because they make each other possible. Here are some simple and easy ways to stay in shape without breaking the family budget.

1. Buy and Eat Healthier Foods
If your goal to lose weight involves the whole family, the grocery budget can provide big savings if you cut out the high cost of high-calorie foods like candy, ice cream and other fatty foods. Frozen vegetables can be bought in bulk at lower costs than fresh vegetables that may spoil before consuming. Bulk buying also means less car trips to the grocery store, and savings on gas. Frozen vegetables also save you cooking time. Fresh fruit can be a great substitute for candies and sweets. Vegetables and fruits are healthy as well as great tasting. Tuna and other fishes are great, heart-healthy choices for anyone trying to eat right. Canned salmon and tuna are cheapest, and with excellent recipes, you can make a cheap meal out of canned fish, while cutting calories and protecting your heart health. Cutting out snacks will save money and cut calories for the entire family as well. When the urge for a snack finds you, choose fruits or veggies. Eating healthier three times a day usually means eating less and saving money. (more…)

The Essence of Weight Loss Discussed

Considering the growing concerns about obesity and other health ailments connected with it, weight loss is now being practiced and discussed more than ever before. In fact, the many health problems that plague society have a lot to do with the way people live, what they do with their bodies knowingly or unknowingly, and how much they think about wellness as part of their lives.

Achieving weight loss alone is very daunting to many. This is because a lot of adults are too occupied with the demands and activities of their regular jobs. Typically, working people get up at either five or six o’clock in the morning, take breakfast, get dressed and spend a good deal of time in traffic before reaching the office. After a full day of work, workers are often drained of their time and energy and their stress goes on with their struggle with traffic on the way home. By the time they reach home, they simply have no time left to exercise and prefer to have dinner as part of their effort to relax.

A Historical Take on Weight Loss

Time, cultures, lifestyles and general mindsets: these are the factors that determine trends in our societies. In most cases, even trends can set standards, rules, laws, and human behaviour within communities. But not all trends last long enough to be established as an absolute idea that everyone can adapt despite changing times. Back to Basics

Fundamentals are the building blocks of fun. The importance of understanding and learning cannot be understated. When you understand, you learn; when you learn, you appreciate. In order to derive fun out of knowing something, you have to understand the principles that govern it. In doing so, you maximize the function of a certain thing or are able to use it fully to your advantage. One of the rewarding things in life is to conquer the unknown. This appeal to the curiosity of man.

One of the jokes about dieting is that the most difficult part of dieting is always the first day because on the second, you are not dieting anymore. Losing weight is truly a feat to be conquered. And why not, when you are going against one of the tenets of nature: the food chain and food web. Basically, you are disobeying how your system naturally works: ingest food, extract the nutrients from food needed by your body, and use the nutrients to build body parts or support bodily functions. When you go on a diet, you are denying your body something it really needs in order to survive. As a counter measure, you brain triggers certain reflexes (growling of your stomach, salivation) to remind you or even force you to stay true to your nature. It is basically the battle of your id and your ego or your desires and your will. This is a constant struggle and a battle of who is more supreme. (more…)
