Losing Weight 101: Fad Diets
One of the natural weight loss strategies involves modifying your eating pattern. These are the so-called fad diets aptly called because they become famous for a short time with people eventually losing interest.
Here are among the commonly used fad diets nowadays:
1) Atkins diet.
This was put forth by the doctor Robert Atkins and documented the diet strategies in his book “The New Diet Revolution.” The popularly used guide today is “The New Atkins for a New You.” The diet involves limiting the amount of carbohydrates that a person takes in or the low-carb diet so that the body uses fats for energy needs instead.
2) Cabbage soup diet.
This is for people who love to eat cabbage. This works for those bridesmaids to be; people who are a size 12 but ordered a size 8 for their gowns. This diet indeed works like charm but cannot be used for a long-term answer to your weight problems. The diet is said to originate from a medical facility used for people to undergo surgery. Basically, it entails one to eat only cabbage soup for seven days. It claims to help you shed off almost 5 kg of weight during that span of time. Of course you’ll get vitamins and minerals but expect to get gassy. It also takes a lot of discipline of consuming only one type of meal during the whole time you are on diet. Many one-food diets are based on this concept.
3) Negative calorie diet.
This is named as such because the foods that you are to eat supply just enough energy for their digestion alone. The diet entails stuffing yourself with green leafy vegetables the whole time. You get to have more fiber and vitamins and minerals in your diet, but you must have the will power to eat only such foods for the whole duration of your regimen.
4) South beach diet.
This is used by many celebrities and models. The diet remains very popular even today. This was proposed by the doctor Arthur Agatston. The book continues to be a bestseller. It follows strict mean planning in three phases. In order to have a grasp and master this type of diet, you have to read the book which offers a step-by-step guide.
5) Zone diet.
Many stars have tried this diet regimen started by the doctor Barry Sears. However, to be able to pull this off, you have to employ the guidance of a medical professional as it involves a fixed ratio of the macronutrients taken in. The diet however is reputed to be very effective and sustainable.
Take note that not all fad diets are disappointments; there are actually others that with time and a little getting used to, bring incredible results. Fad diets are widely used because they give positive results during a short span of time. Added to this is the advantage that you won’t have to spend long hours working out. However, you have to be very careful not to overdo yourself, thus, risking your well-being in the process.
