Weight loss has been a major concern for a long time. With the advancement of human knowledge and the conveniences of technology, people have become more sedentary with unhealthy eating habits. With the increasing number of overweight and obese people, the battle for weight loss continues. Here are several weight loss methods that are being used today:

Diet is one integral part people have to consider when considering a weight loss method. People eat food in order to have enough energy to move, work, play, and live. The excess food is then stored, usually as fats to be used in case the body needs more energy. When this cycle is repeated over and over, the body begins to gain weight.

Weight loss products are common and you can buy them almost anywhere – here on the Internet and offline. These products are so sought-after that most companies have started to work on their own brands. Since the quest for losing weight has become incredibly popular over the past few years, a lot of ideas and concepts that came up, many of which are actually based on traditional practices and beliefs. Losing fats has become a battle for many people that they are willing to do what it takes just to look thin. Since our society is heavily influenced by the perception of beauty (which includes being thin), people are forced to lose a great deal of weight through whatever means necessary. According to the World Health Organization, 30.6% Americans today are obese. Worldwide, one billion people are overweight while 300 million suffer from obesity. That’s one billion of the almost seven billion population of the world today, compared to the 800 million people who are underweight due to poverty. Weight loss for the overweight and obese population is then highly advised by WHO.
The exploding rate in the number of obese people gravely heightened the figures of a number of chronic diseases such as diabetes type-2, cardiovascular diseases like hypertension and atherosclerosis and certain kinds of cancer. In the early days, type-2 diabetes only affected adults of advanced age but today, it has become common to younger people who are overweight and more to those who are obese.
That is why losing weight down to the ideal level is vital in safeguarding overall health and lengthening a functional life. And the steady increase of the number of obese people has made certain groups and organizations to make moves in halting the procession of obesity along with the dangers they drag along with them.

Given the large number of overweight people nowadays, weight loss is a big topic. With the advance in medicine and surgical techniques, many people start to think about having a weight loss surgery done to escape the dreaded weeks and months of following an exercise and diet regimen. Unfortunately even though the idea seems amazing, the real problems with weight loss surgery are only known by a few people. Hopefully we can shed some light with this article and show you why following a diet and exercise program are still the best way to go to lose weight.
The problem with weight loss surgery is that there is a rather large correlation between people getting a weight loss procedure done and committing suicide. I will show you what I mean in the paragraph below.

For some people, their excess weight poses such a severe risk to their health that is imperative that more drastic remedial actions are taken in order to resolve the issue and so gastric band surgery has become a legitimate surgical method of intervention to handle the effects of clinical obesity.
There can be no denying that gastric band surgery is a highly invasive and drastic form of weight loss and as effective as it is, it is by no means a “get out of jail free” card meaning that the person who undergoes it will be required to ensure that they actually listen to the advice of their physician to the absolute letter.
A common mistake made about gastric band surgery is that anyone who is overweight is eligible for it, in actual fact, many patients will be required to actually lose some weight before they undergo the procedure in order to minimise the risk of failure and potential side effects.
What does it involve? (more…)

We have heard it all our dieting life: “keep a food journal, it will keep you accountable for what you eat.” That advice always failed me, the best I could ever keep a food journal was through breakfast, I did not want to leave written evidence of my eating behavior.
But there is one time in my life I kept a journal, words and feelings scribed on the page. That journal chronicled the first year following my weight loss surgery. The weight loss surgery experience is profound. It is a physical and emotional Mt. Everest. I dare say there is no other change a morbidly obese person will ever undertake that is as emotionally significant as weight loss surgery. (more…)
